The starting point for the boat is the Mistress 2 (M2). This boat performed well the the 2005 Europeans and the authors feel that it is the closest to the design direction we want this project to go in.

Adam's First Thoughts for the New Design

The bow could be fined up even more.

More volume in the transom could be good.

Centre of buoyancy moved further aft (which will happen with the finer bow and bigger transom)

Start chines further forward, and try to have them sweep up near the bow.

Could go for slightly less rocker

Flares are definitely not needed.

Keep bow freeboard about the same or a fraction higher, but drop the front wingbars another 20/30mm.

The flatter deck is good, although a central kickbar would be useful.

Adjustable gantry is a must.

Tiny flare to tie tramps to worked really well on M2, especially with the carbon rod laminated into the deck.

Case and mast position needs some thought, but M2 worked well. Possibly could go a fraction further forward with the board relative to the rig.

The extra wing stubs at front and back worked well, allowing gantry support at the rear, and less wingbar movement fore and aft at the front.

The lower wingbar angle was definitely easy to sail with.

Tillers should be longer

Booms as stiff as possible

Angled rear bars worked well, and looked good.

Space frame foredeck should be considered.

I could do a smaller set of tramps on my boat ~10/15cm shorter in the fore and aft sense.

Less weight and windage would be key aims.
